Darcy Scanlin is an award-winning production designer with 20 years of experience designing sets for feature films, opera and theater productions. She works in a multitude of styles, periods and genres, spanning classical Greece to modern Shanghai and the future. Her work is anchored in a tight collaboration with the director, and often inspired by the psychological spaces of character. She develops mood and tone to support the dramatic energy of a script and builds spaces with strong architectural and graphic composition. Her aesthetic weaves the strands of character, culture, place and time to create environments that express the authentic inner and outer worlds of the story in powerful visual form.
Awards include a 2015 Ovation Award, the NEA-TCG Career Development program for Designers, Best Production Design at the Boston Film Festival, a Santa Barbara Independent Award, a grant from the Public Corporation for the Arts, and named "Designer to Watch" by Entertainment Design Magazine. She taught scenic design at Westmont College for two years and was a guest lecturer in production design at the UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television in 2015 and 2016.
Darcy is a member of The Art Directors Guild, IATSE LOCAL 800. She lives in Altadena (Los Angeles) with her husband David and daughter Sophia.

· SPEECH AND DEBATE, by Tony winner & Pulitzer Prize nominee Steven Karam, directed by Dan Harris, (X-MEN Franchise). A high school comedy about 3 outsiders, A BREAKFAST CLUB for this generation. Released in theaters and digitally in April 2017. Produced by Tom Rice (Collide, The Way Way Back, Begin Again, Mississippi Grind). Starring Liam James (The Way, Way Back), Sarah Steele (The Good Wife, To Do List), Janeane Garofalo, Kal Penn (Harold & Kumar), Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton).
· FINAL RECIPE: theatrically released on 3200 screens in China; it is now on its way to the US. Shot in Thailand and China, a gorgeous food movie, with enormous stage sets and epic food streets, starring Michelle Yeo, Chin Han and Henry Lau.
