I'm very proud to announce that I'm officially joining Local 800, The Art Directors' Guild.  The union has been very good to me for the past several years, and I'm excited to finally (officially) become a member.

Just wrapped a beautiful feature set in 1940's Nazi Occupied France.  (We shot LA for France...)  It is a gorgeous film- amazing script and actors- cannot wait to see the final cut!  Staring Carey Elwes, Jason Patric and Judd Hirsch.

Sophie and the Rising Sun will hit the big screen in early 2017!

Monterey Media has secured U.S. and Canada rights to Maggie Greenwald’s Sophie And The Rising Sun and is planning for a theatrical launch in early 2017.  Based on the novel by Augusta Trobaugh, the  forbidden love story stars Julianne Nicholson (August: Osage County), Margo Martindale (August: Osage County), Lorraine Toussaint (Orange Is The New Black), Takashi Yamaguchi (Letters From Iwo Jima) and Diane Ladd (Joy).

The film had its world premiere at THE SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL (2016) where it was the opening night gala film.  It was received with standing ovations at both the festival screening and the Official Salt Lake City Gala screening. I spoke on a panel of production designers at the International Production Designers Collective, and did a podcast for Canon and No Film School with DP Wolfgang Held.

The film was designed and shot in May/June 2015, 30 miles north of Charleston, South Carolina, in a tiny cinematic fishing village with giant oaks that drape ubiquitous Spanish Moss over the small streets.  The story is set in 1941, on the eve of Pearl Harbor, and revolves around Sophie, whose lonely life is transformed when an Asian man arrives under mysterious circumstances. Their love affair becomes the lightning rod for long-buried conflicts that erupt in bigotry and violence with the outbreak of World War ll.

In October 2016, Final Recipe was released on 3200 screens in China.   It will soon be making the rounds in Europe and Asia, and then the US!

A beautifully sumptuous film shot in Thailand and China in 2013, Final Recipe features huge stylized stage sets, and and massive realistic location transformations, (i.e. turning the streets of Thailand into China and Singapore...).   Starring Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and Chin Han (Batman Returns).

Keep an eye out for the theatrical release of SPEECH AND DEBATE; there are some wonderful buyers currently in conversation to distribute the film, which is receiving rave reviews and standing ovations.  Directed by Dan Harris, writer of the X-Men franchise, and Produced by Tom Rice (Mississippi Grind, The Hollars, and The Way Way Back).

Based on the critically acclaimed off-Broadway hit, SPEECH & DEBATE follows three teenagers brought together by a series of mishaps.  Frustrated by the hypocrisy they see in their parents, teachers, and the entire school board, the unlikely trio set out to find a common truth and make their voices heard as they revive a defunct school club and take on the world.  (Currently in post production.) Cannot Wait for this to come out.

"You get four Tony winners for the price of one in “Speech & Debate,” the upcoming movie based onStephen Karam’s first play.

Karam, also the film’s screenwriter, just picked up the Tony Award for best play for “The Humans,”currently selling well in its new Broadway home. But “Speech & Debate,” directed by Dan Harris and screening for potential distributors this fall, has also roped in a slew of theater names to fill out its ensemble: The cast list includes this year’s fellow Tony champ Lin-Manuel Miranda (“Hamilton”) in a cameo; Roger Bart (Tony winner for “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown”) in a somewhat larger role; and Kristin Chenoweth (also a Tony winner for “Charlie Brown”), singing an original song over the end credits....

Right off the bat theater fans will recognize one of the movie’s leads. Sarah Steele, currently appearing in “The Humans,” plays Diwata — reprising the role she originated almost ten years ago at Roundabout Underground. In the film, she stars alongside Liam James (“The Way, Way Back,” “The Killing”) and Austin P. McKenzie, who played the lead in the recent Broadway revival of “Spring Awakening.”"
